Item Population Studies of the Blue Crabs of the Matagorda Bay System - Studies of the Blue Crab Populations of the Texas Coast(Texas Game and Fish Commission Marine Laboratory, 1963) Moffett, A. W.Small blue crabs were abundant near shore in April, July, and November of 1962. Large crabs were common in the bay from April through October. The lack of adult females in May and June samples indicate a movement from the bay. Variations in monthly sex ratios were more pronounced among larger crabs.Item Populations of Juvenile Shrimp in the Matagorda Bay Complex - Study of Juvenile Shrimp Populations(Texas Game and Fish Commission Marine Laboratory, 1963) Murray, F. A.; Moffett, A. W.The first signs of 1962 year-class brown shrimp were found in mid-April. This group was followed by a second wave in July and a third in August. A few whites were taken in June, however, the first major wave occurred in July. This was followed by a second wave in October. Trawl data indicates a sharp population drop (for both species) beginning in August.Item Populations Studies of the Sports and Commercial Fin-fish and Forage Species of the Matagorda Bay System - Analysis of Populations of Sports and Commercial Fin-fish and Factors which Affect these Populations in the Coastal Bays of Texas(Texas Game and Fish Commission Marine Laboratory, 1963) Moffett, A. W.; Murray, F. A.Following the winter freeze of 1962 fish catches were at a low level. Tag returns suggest little redfish and drum movement.Item Study of Oyster Growth and Population Structure of the Public Reefs in Matagorda, Tres Palacios and East Matagorda Bays - Survey of Oyster Populations and Associated Organisms(Texas Game and Fish Commission Marine Laboratory, 1963) Moffett, A. W.; Murray, F. A.Monthly growth increments of oysters were estimated at 2.8 mm for the 1962 year-class and 3.3 mm for the 1961 class. The largest oyster concentrations appear to be in Tres Palacios Bay. Heavy spat setting occurred on Gadwall Reef and Sand Point Reef.Item
