Most human activities are sheltered in buildings. Preventing structural failure reduces property losses and ensures continuing usage during the emergency and recovery phases. Disaster hazard considerations should therefore be incorporated into land-use planning, building design, construction, operation and maintenance. These disaster mitigation methods should include measures which eliminate or reduce damages caused by extreme environments such as earthquakes, landslides, high winds, typhoons and flooding. It should be obvious that an intergrated attention to these hazards would cost a little more than treatment for any single event alone, the long term benefits however, are significantly increased. This report is an attempt to establish recommended techniques for comprehensive hazard mitigation in building construction and design.en
