Mathematical hydrodynamic and salinity transport models applicable to the analysis of the effects of tidal inlets on shallow irregularly shaped estuaries typical of the Gulf coast on the U.S. are outlined. The practical utility of these models was developed and demonstrated for the simulation of salinity distributions under well-mixed water conditions for 2 estuaries on the Gulf coast, Galveston Bay, Texas.en_US
