| dc.description.abstract | Total rainfall for 1959 equaled or exceeded the record mean at most points on the Texas Gulf Coast with the exception of the extreme southern tip. There was an early season increase in waterfowl populations and a late season decrease when compared with the previous year. The January Mid-winter Inventory showed a marked decrease in wintering waterfowl in Texas - especially pintails, redheads and scaup. Throughout the winter between 60 per cent and 75 per cent of the waterfowl were concentrated on the upper half of the coast, a complete reversal of the situation the winter before. Only in October was a flight made into Mexico, with but insignificant numbers of waterfowl present at that time. An exploratory investigation to determine methods and feasibility of conducting a state-wide waterfowl inventory was made using volunteer warden cooperators. | en_US |
