This Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (Draft SEIS) presents 10 alternatives for managing old-growth and late-successional forests and discloses their environmental effects. The management direction applies only to the lands administered by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) of the Pacific Northwest and northern California within the range of the northern spotted owl. Alternative 9 is identified as the preferred alternative and presents information on the forest plan announced by President Clinton on July 1, 1993. The purpose is to take an ecosystem approach to forest management, maintain and restore biological diversity as it applies to late-successional and old-growth forest ecosystems; maintain a sustained yield of renewable natural resources, including timber, other forest products, and other forest values; and maintain rural economies and communities.en_US
