| dc.description.abstract | Uniform and reliable information on the generation and disposal of solid wastes has been lacking in the United States, but the prospect of closing this data gap has greatly improved since the initiation of the National Survey of Community Solid Waste Practices. This survey is providing informaion on the types and amounts of solid wastes collected, their disposition, and the resources (manpower, equipment, facilities, monies, etc.) required to carry out collection, reduction, and disposal activities. The National Survey of Community Solid Waste Practices was designed and is coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare's solid wastes program in conjunction with its state planning grant program, which is in partnership with states and territories. The actual collection of the data is being implemented by personnel of the states that have received planning grants. Survey data available on July 1, 1968, has been presented in its basic form. However, in order to render the information more useful it needs to be seen in a more concise statistical format. This preliminary data analysis of the National Survey of Community Solid Waste Practices provides a basic summary and preliminary statistical reduction of the survey data. This report represents what is anticipated to be the first in a series of papers based in statistical analyses of the National Survey data. It is hoped that this work will prove useful to all persons, agencies, and organizations, public and private, involved in improving and promoting effective solid waste management. | en |
