Formerly known from 9 localities in Southeastern Texas, the Houston toad is now only known from Bastrop and Burleson Counties and Southeastern Houston, Harris County. Replacement of temporary rainwater pools with permanent ponds and reservoirs has led to hybridization of Houston toads with two other species of sympatric toads. The species is near extinction.en_US
