dc.description.abstractThe Flood Control Act of 1962 authorized an initial investigation by the Corps of Engineers (COE) into flooding problems on Clear Creek in Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris Counties, Texas. A report on the investigation was sumitted to Congress in 1968. Construction of flood control measures along Clear Creek's main channel was recommended, with the Secretary of the Army directing that the recommended plan be reviewed and modified during pre-construction planning to achieve a reasonable balance between structural modification of the creek and regulating development of the flood plain. The Clear Creek, Texas, Flood Control Project was authorized by Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1968. The authorized project, designed to accomodate a 100-year flood, would channelize Clear Creek from Clear Lake to a point just upstream of the Fort Bend-Harris County line. Our investigation in 1965 indicated that the project would not significantly affect the fish and wildlife resources of the area.en_US
