An on-going evaluation of the environmental hazards posed by priority pollutants in water is being conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Monitoring and Data Support Division (MDSD) of the Office of Water Regulations and Standards of EPA is conducting various programs to determine the significance of specific point and non-point sources of toxic pollutants to receiving waters. The priority pollutant monitoring project of the Nationwide Urban Runoff Program (NURP) was initiated to evaluate the significance of priority pollutants in urban stormwater runoff. This program will help determine which priority pollutants are in urban stormwater runoff, how frequently, and at what concentrations, as well as evaluate the potential impacts of priority pollutants from urban runoff on aquatic life and water supplies. The information generated by this program will provide one of the first comprehensive, national databases of its kind. .... To implement the NURP priority pollutant monitoring project, various urban localities received grants and technical assistance for urban runoff sampling and analysis. This paper summarizes the results of the priority pollutant analyses, based on the data as of July 31, 1982.en_US
