A general discussion of the Texas oyster situation is presented and includes summary description of oystering areas and potential, industry problems (fluctuation of harvest, pollution, shell dredging and diseases), and research activities. Research includes periodic sampling of major commercial reefs to determine seasonal changes in spat, seed, and market stocks; oyster disease studies directed by Dr. J.G. Mackin, and artificial oyster reef construction. A new experiment station is also being built on Matagorda Bay.en_US
