In September 1967, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Texas Water Development Board, began a water-resources investigation of the principal estuaries along the Texas coast except Galveston Bay and the Rio Grande. The objectives are to define: (1) the occurrences, source, and distribution of nutrients; (2) current patterns and directions and rates of movement; (3) physical, organic, and inorganic water quality and its areal distribution and time variation; (4) occurrence, quality, quantity, and dispersion of drainage entering the estuarine systems; and (5) chemical and physical characteristics of water which enters the estuaries from the Gulf of Mexico. The data collected from October 1968 to September 1969 are presented.en_US
