This manual was written to assist professional biologists in the use of the Ecological Systems Component (ESC) of the Activity Assessment Routine. The ESC is a documentation and bookkeeping system for assessment of ecological impacts of proposed projects. The manual is organized on the basis of the major parts of the assessment process: analysis of the activity, identification of primary ecological changes, tracing of indirect ecological changes, summary, and interface with policy.
