This report is a study of how the parasite Perkinsus marinus affects the reproduction of oysters, Crassostrea virginica, in Galveston Bay. The oysters had a reduction in energy due to the parasite. Also, during spore formation, change in the antigenetic properties occurs. A positive correlation was observed between the number of eggs produced and oyster size; the number of eggs increased as oyster size increased. However, large oysters produced fewer eggs per biomass. Female oysters produced 3.7 to 65.4 million eggs with an average of 21.1 million during each spawning.en_US
