In this study the economically important brown shrimp, Penaeus aztecus (Ives), was reared in ponds designed to receive a constant supply of heated effluent bay water from a power plant on the Gulf Coast in southeast Texas. These organisms were used to evaluate the potential of this effluent for mariculture purposes and also to serve as in situ biological monitors of the water quality of the effluent. An additional study was conducted to determine the potential of nautural benthic organisms as shrimp food in ponds receiving the heated power plant discharge.en_US
