This paper attempted to list every protozoan that had previously (ie-prior to 1954) been reported from the Gulf of Mexico, except the Dinoflagellata and Foraminifera. For each protozoan order considered, not only are the reported species listed, but also a statement is usually made as to whether representatives of that group would be expected under conditions existing in the Gulf.
