Abstract

The proposed Federal action is continued periodic maintenance dredging of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and its branch channel to La Quinta to authorized project depths. The Federal navigation project provides deep-draft navigation channels extending from the Gulf of Mexico through a jettied entrance channel in Aransas Pass to a turning basin at Harbor Island and thence across Corpus Christi Bay to turning basins at La Quinta, Corpus Christi, Avery Point, Chemical, Tule Lake, and Viola. The federally maintained project also includes several deep-draft turning basins and turning points at various locations in the Corpus Christi Harbor area.... This statement addresses maintenance of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel to both existing and improved depths. The channel is currently being deepened from 40 feet to 45 feet, and much of the work has been completed. The deepening project was addressed by a final environmental statement which has been filed with the Council on Environmental Quality.
