The purpose of this book is to integrate the most important aspects of fisheries surveys in a single volume. A balanced approach is taken to the general problem of estimating the abundance and age composition of fisheries resources, with equal emphasis on consideration of the biology of the target species, selection of appropriate survey technology, and statistical design of the survey. The assumptions and limitations inherent in each survey method are discussed, and examples of successful spplications are provided. Care has been taken to cite pertinent references throughout the book, so that the reader can refer to them when a greater level of detail is desired.en_US
