Abstract
The Governor of Texas and the State Legislature have given the Texas Transportation Institute the responsibility for conducting a Texas rail system evaluation. A significant portion of the study addresses the possible need for increased rail passenger service in Texas. A series of reports are to be prepared as a part of the rail passenger study. This report, identifying those intercity travel corridors that warrant additional study and evaluating existing and projected travel in the corridors, is the fourth in this series of technical reports. Other reports published to date are listed below. 1. The History of Rail Passenger Service in Texas, 1820-1970; 2. Amtrak and Its Texas Operations; 3. The Technology of Rail Passenger Service.
