Abstract

The overall objective of this investigation was to perform nutrient exchange studies in the Trinity River delta system and to investigate the sources and effects of toxic materials in the lower Trinity River and delta. This overall objective was accomplished by the following specific objectives: (1) conduct nutrient exchange studies in the Trinity River delta using plexiglass reactors, larger scale reactors, and the linear marsh which had been used in previous investigations, and (2) conduct studies on the sources and effects of toxic materials in the lower Trinity River through characterization of water and sediment samples in the water and marsh systems of the lower river and delta areas for heavy metals and pesticides, review the possible sources of toxic materials using Texas Water Quality Board permit and field data and any other data sources, and conduct limited growth suppressant tests using marsh plants and Trinity River water.
