Abstract

Thirty-five stations in a shallow (mixo)mesohaline estuary, Trinity Bay, Texas, were sampled, in replicate, once each month for 3 months. Sorted taxa were ranked by percent occurrence and mean abundance and the top 5 representative taxa were compared. Frequency of occurrence or mean abundance indicated no major difference between the major taxa collected by the Mackin Corer and the Petersen grab. Single classification analysis of variance indicated that the Mackin Corer regularly collected higher mean densities of the most common taxa with more precise estimates of these same densities.
