Review of the available literature and historical records has yielded only six verifiable humpback whale accounts, all from the eastern portion of the Gulf. On 19 February 1992 a humpback whale was sighted approximately 0.5 km north of the Houston Ship Channel, off Galveston, Texas. This represents the western-most sighting of a humpback whale in the Gulf of Mexico and the first such sightings in Texas watersASW,Mexico GulfASW,USA,Texasgeographical distributionliterature reviewsmarine mammalsMegaptera novaeangliaeO 1050 Vertebrates,Urochordates and CephalochordatesQ1 01372 Geographical distributionFirst account of a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) in Texas waters, with a re-evaluation of historical records from the Gulf of MexicoJournal
