Smith, J.C.2010-02-152010-02-151975http://hdl.handle.net/1969.3/1993111 p.Known and geographically intermediate localities of the Houston toad (Bufo houstonensis) were surveyed on appropriate nights during the 1975 breeding season. These localities were in the generalized historical distribution of the species ranging from Liberty County on the east to Bastrop County on the west, and Burleson County on the north to Colorado and Fort Bend Counties on the south. Breeding calls were noted in only two counties in numbers leading to estimates of 500 in Burleson County and 1500 in Bastrop County. It should be noted that the possibility still exists for the species to be present in other localities- it is a sporadic breeder responding to presently ill-defined environmental breeding stimuli.vertebrate zoologyherpetologyHouston toadBufo houstonensisrare speciesendangered speciesreproductive behaviorgeographical distributionHouston toad study.Book
