In addition, a flightless Northern shoveler was captured in the same marsh on 9 September 1969. These birds were molting females that had probably bred further north and subsequently migrated to the Texas coast before beginning their post-nuptial molt. This represents the first record of pre-molt migration in pintails and Northern shovelers wintering on the Texas Gulf coast.aquatic birdsmigrationspintail duckAnas acutanorthern shovelerAnas clypeatamarshesRecords of molting in the pintail (Anasacuta) and northern shoveler (Anas clypeata) on the Texas Gulf coast.Article
