Two possible explanations exist. Most investigators believe that the activities of the carp in stirring up sediments as they feed produces the chemical and biological changes. However, the recent findings of Fitzgerald (1970), cast doubt on the importance of this as the chief mechanism. The purpose of the study was to test the second possibility, that it is the digestive activities of the bottom feeding fish that produces the nutrient release from the sediments resulting in the chemical and biological changes.Digestive activities of carpnutrient loading of lakesDigestive activities of carp as a major contributor to the nutrient loading of lakesarticle
