Abstract

This book provides a history of uses (and abuses) of the Chesapeake Bay waters from 1607-1996 as well as public attitudes during this same time period. Since both federal and state legislative actions chronicle the changing public perception concerning bay water quality and fisheries, they are discussed in detail. Particular attention is given to the management efforts of the last quarter of the twentieth century. Included are EPA studies, information on the Chesapeake Bay Program, and the Critical Area Protection Act.
