Abstract
From its sandy beaches to its famed historic Strand District, Galveston Island is one of Texas' most charming escapes -- an island for all seasons -- whose temperate climate, savory seafood, delightful accommodations, and perfect blend of historic and contemporary sights and attractions are an all- year tourist draw. Some six million visitors flock to the island each year, and local officials expect that figure to grow to eight million by the middle of this decade. And what do those visitors do once they've crossed the causeway that connects Galveston with the Mainland?
