Abstract

The Contaminant Subcommittee of the Houston-Galveston Navigation Channels, Texas project decided that an evaluation of the contaminant potential of the maintenance material from the Bolivar Roads to Mile 10 reach of the Houston Ship Channel was needed. The approach used for the examination was a review of the existing physical, chemical, and biological data, an evaluation of marine quality criteria compliance using a numerical mixing model and an evaluation of the potential for benthic impacts using calculations of theoretical bioaccumulation potential, and the conduct of suspended particulate phase bioassays, solid phase bioassays, and bioaccumulation studies.
