Abstract
The model community hurricane preparedness which follows is addressed primarily to local authorities in cities and communities along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Coasts vulnerable to hurricanes. It is intended to offer suggestions as to planning and organization to minimize hurricane losses. The hurricane preparedness plan presented herein is for a fictitious city, Homeport, in Achilles County, on the Atlantic Coast. The plan is equally applicable in a real life situation. The plan deals with the hazards associated with hurricanes and shows what can be done to minimize death and destruction.
