Abstract

This report focuses on the bayou segment of the Houston Ship Channels which consists of a series of curves. The navigation study was conducted using a ship simulator facility and were designed to test the adequacy of Phase I and Phase II channels for two-way traffic and to determine if the reach between Cargill and Oxy-Chem docks were safe for two-way traffic, and to design safe turns at the Baytown Bridge, Exxon terminal, and at the Lynchburg ferries. The simulation replicated the actual meeting and passing maneuver as closely as possible with interactive hydrodynamics affecting two ships moving in opposite directions.
