Abstract

Life history of the blue tilapia in Trinidad Reservoir, a reservoir receiving a heated discharge. together with hydrological parameters, species composition, abundance and distribution in relation to the thermal discharge was studied. Fish were collected by gill nets throughout the lake and at standard seining stations. The principal species taken in gill nets were bluegill, gizzard shad, freshwater drum and blue tilapia; in seine samples threadfin shad, gizzard shad, blue tilapia and Mississippi silverside. Total numbers of fish collected at standard seine stations indicated the heated waters of the discharge canal attracted most species in the fall and winter and repelled them in the summer.
