Abstract

Harris County covers 1,765 sq. miles, or 1,129,500 acres. About 40% of the county is urban land, 25% pasture and range, 15% woodland, 15% cropland, and 5% federal land and water areas. The soils in the coast prairie area are formed under grasses and are dominantly dark colored, loamy, and clayey. Soils of East Texas timberland area are formed under forest vegetation and are dominantly light colored, sandy and loamy. Slope is the main concern on the soils of this area.
