Abstract

As Texas moves into the 21st century, water issues will, to a large extent, determine how our society, economy and environment will be shaped. We will be faced with trying to do more with less to meet the water demands of our growing population and to accomplish this task at a reasonable economic and environmental cost. In order for policy makers to make decisions on the water development and quality issues facing Texas, it is imperative that we have the data available to address those issues. This paper will focus on water development, infrastructure and operations and will identify potential areas of research for each. Due to the nature of the subject and the immediacy of many of the water issues confronting the State, the areas of research being suggested address practical applications rather then strictly academic endeavors.
