Abstract
There are several numerical models currently available for simulating circulation, salinity and sedimentation patterns in coastal bays and estuaries; however, judging their applicability requires delineation of the criteria used in evaluating the models. The Bay Modeling Subcommittee of the Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee to the Galveston Bay National Estuary Program offers the following criteria: (1) Spatial capability, (2) Temporal capability, (3) Input capabilities, (4) Physical formulation, (5) Boundary conditions, (6) General numerical efficiency of the model code, and (7) Successful application to other estuarine systems and a measure of transportability of the code (with adequate user documentation).
