Abstract

These guidelines are for general use by those who are interested in suitable and economical methods of shore protection. These guidelines describe typical erosion control measures and present examples of shore protection facilities, and present criteria for planning shore protection programs. Guidelines cover several means to reduce shorefront damages, such as: a) conservation; b) structural; and c) structural to restore or enhance natural processes. In addition, a technical report for use by professional engineers or other technically trained persons has resulted from this research effort: Shore protection, planning and design, Technical Report No. 4, U.S. Army Coastal Engineering Research Center. This report is intended to be periodically updated.
