Abstract
This paper is an early attempt to explain the recurrent summer mortality of marine organisms at Offatts Bayou, a blind arm of Galveston Bay. The author attributes the annual mortality to anaerobic decomposition of organic material at the inner end of the bayou. This condition was believed to result from insufficient water circulation between the bayou and the adjacent bay.
