Abstract
Because fish and shellfish accumulate contaminants from the water, fish advisories and bans (closures) are distributed by the Texas Department of Health. These guidelines and recommendations are used to prevent health risks caused by contaminants. By consuming fish from a variety of water bodies and smaller fish, health risks can be significantly reduced. This report lists the prohibited areas, advisory areas, and rescinded areas by county for 1997.
