Abstract

Recreation and Tourism is the nation's largest single employer and fastest growing industry. The industry is highly complex and competitive, as well as being totally dependent upon demand. Just as other industries, the economic base and impact factors of an area or community greatly influence the success or failure of investments in the recreation and tourism industry. This investigation purported to undertake an economic impact of the recreation and tourism industry within the Texas Coastal Zone in order to be able to determine the significance of the recreation and tourism industries to the economy of the State and to the Coastal Zone. The manuscript includes a concise description of the study area, an explanation of the methodology, the presentation of the public and private economic data, several basic conclusions and projections, and a suggested bibliography.
