Live and dead shrimp are preferred natural bait for recreational fishing. As a result, extensive bait-shrimp fisheries have developed along the Gulf coast, especially in Florida and Texas. .... In 1984, the estimated market yield for bait shrimp landed from the Galveston Bay System was $4.3 million. Both inshore and offshore fisherman exploit the same shrimp population, though at different stages of the life cycle.
