Abstract

This report summarizes data collected during periodic hydrographic surveys made in 1964 over the shelf of the northeast Gulf of Mexico. The survey region extends from the Mississippi Delta to Cape San Blas, Florida (about 300 nautical miles) and offshore to the 1,000 fathom depth contour (100 to 110 nautical miles). Hydrographic observations consisted mainly of profiles by bathythermographs and salinity determinations of water samples taken at selected depths. In addition, several thousand drift bottles were released from pre-designated locations in the survey area.
