Abstract

Concentrations of Ag, Al, As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, Sn, and Zn were determined in sediments and organisms in the Swan Lake area of the Galveston Bay system. The organisms studied were oysters, mussels, snails, crabs, fish, shrimp, and marsh grass. For these organisms, trace metal concentrations were generally: oysters > snail > crab > shrimp > fish. Furthermore, geographic trends in sediment trace metal concentrations suggest that tin smelter residues cause elevations.
