Abstract

Texas anglers are becoming increasingly interested in the swordfish. This large game fish, which may attain a weight of up to 200 pounds, has a broad, flattened bill one-third its total length and large blue eyes near the base of the bill. Its rigid, nonretractable dorsal fin and the top of its tail protrude from the water when the fish swims near surface, distinguishing it from other billfish.
