Abstract

This study had six objectives: to monitor the water quality at a generating station using twenty species, and monitoring their effectiveness as monitoring organisms; to compare effectiveness of flow-through and recirculating water systems in culture practices; to culture selected species with oysters to determine the suitability of a fish/oyster polyculture system; to monitor the effects of oysters on tank pH and turbidity; to monitor temperature, conductivity and dissolved oxygen and to determine their influence on the growth and survival; and to compare pesticide and heavy metal levels in selected species as compared between water systems and species.
