Abstract

The objectives of the study described are to evaluate the effects of the headwater reservoirs on flood control operation, water yield, and sediment load at the Corps of Engineers reservoirs. The cross section view of a floodwater retarding structure is presented. Drainage areas controlled by these structures are mostly in the range of one to five square miles. Discharges through the principal spillway will be weir flow for water levels up to about two feet above the crest of the principal spillway and will be pressure flow for higher water levels
