Abstract

This paper describes the first of two phases of a project undertaken to develop a data base of oil discharges from ships operating in the Gulf of Mexico for the Office of Resources Coordination and Assessment (ORCA) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This study represents a first attempt at estimating the spatial and temporal pattern of oil discharges from ships over an area as large as the entire Gulf of Mexico.
