Unfavorable conditions for trapping and banding of the resident mottled duck prevented the successful operation of banding stations. No efforts to trap and band winter migrants were made due to the time required to complete the state-wide kill survey. A total of 969 band returns was received following the 1954-55 waterfowl hunting season, bringing the total received since 1948 to 4,571. Pintail band returns from eight important banding sites were plotted in county maps in an effort to determine or distinguish intrastate flyway routes. On the basis of the data derived from three sources, it appears that there is a definite correlation between flyway routes and the major river watersheds in Texas. Assuming that the watersheds are of significance in intrastate flyway routes, the Trinity, Brazos and Colorado Rivers are the most important watersheds and 65% or more of the waterfowl migrating into the coastal region follow these rivers.
