Abstract
The ability of Palaemonetes pugio to regulate internal ions was studied under steady-state conditions and non steady-state conditions. The transfer of organisms from low to high or from high to low salinities resulted in an immediated change in sodium efflux rates. This change was primarily dependent on the sodium chloride concentration, not the osmotic concentration of the external medium.
