Item Case report of multiple parasitic infestation and bacterial infection of the Southern Hake, 'Urophycis floridanus'.(U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service, Gulf Coastal Fisheries Center, 1974) Fontaine, C.T.; Lightner, D.V.;The article reports parasitic infestation in a southern hake, Urophycis floridanus captured on March 22, 1973, on the Texas coast. The development of symptoms in the captive animal and the results of tissue examination are reported several varieties of parasite were found. Gills were heavily infested with the parasite Cryptocaryon irritans, a type frequently found in aquaria. Internal organs were infested with an adult cestode, Echeneibothrium variabile, and a larval nematode, Constracaecum sp. Species utilized in the one-year (Nov. 1973-Nov. 1974) survey were obtained from commercial bait dealers.
