About Us
The origins of the Galveston Bay Information Center lie in the critical losses of data and information which were identified in the early stages of the Galveston Bay National Estuary Program.
Citizens and scientists responded with a call for the creation of the Galveston Bay Information Center. Long-term preservation and access to Bay research and information was considered vital to the Bay’s future. Through community support and cooperative partnerships with various agencies, universities, organizations and industries, the Information Center has developed into a reliable regional resource serving all members of the Bay community. Initial research and development of the Information Center began in 1989. In May 1992, the Information Center opened its doors to the public. The Information Center continues operation today through cooperative programs with the Galveston Bay Estuary Program and Texas A&M University at Galveston, and through research grants and private and corporate donations. The Information Center is located in the Jack K. Williams Library, Mitchell Campus, Texas A&M University at Galveston. |
